Colchester 2-8-0 Gresley Class 01 *NEW*
A synopsis from the Designer Paul Pavier
A new Engine for today’s Model Engineer in 7 ¼”g.
Colchester 2-8-0 Gresley Class 01, nickname ‘Tango’.
I have chosen the engine, because I was so pleased with the performance of the 5”g version I built with good results in 3 IMLEC’s. I wanted to build one in 7 ¼”g, however there weren’t any drawings or castings available until NOW!
I have chosen the name ‘COLCHESTER’ because the class used to run through the town of its namesake and coupled with my days in the Royal Engineers, where I had the misfortune to deliver a ‘live body’ to the forces jail in Colchester on my way home on leave, strange how places and memories collide.
The drawings are in metric to suit today’s Model Engineer, if you wish to use imperial it’s just an easy equation to convert. Included a components list and assembly diagrams to make it easier to understand how the components fit together.
I have kept the castings down to a minimum to help with costs etc. however some components can be fabricated from solid if the builder so wishes.
The boiler is of professional design by Southern Boilers and are also available from Western Steam LTD.
The Engine has been designed with power and strength in mind, also keeping things practical. Detail can be added by the builder if required.
I am currently building 2 Gresley 01’s and 2 Thompson 01’s to prove drawings, so far nothing has come up as a fault or problem
